IMPHAL : During a joint operation, Assam Rifles nabbed one cadre of the banned militant group, SOREPA. The arrest has been made in Manipur's Imphal district, during a joint search operation by Keithelmanbi Battalion of Assam Rifles and Police.
The personnels arrested the active cadre on 3rd February, Friday. The Assam Rifles tweeted regarding the same, stating that, 'Assam Rifles apprehends one insurgent of SOREPA in Manipur Keithelmanbi Battalion of Assam Rifles on 3rd February, 2023, in a joint operation with Police, apprehended one active cadre of proscribed group SOREPA from Ahallup Thongkhong, Imphal East District, Manipur.'
On 5th of February, a team of 42nd Assam Rifles and personnels from Champhai Police seized as much as 119 grams of heroin. The seized contrabands were estimated to be worth Rs 59 lakh. The team seized the illicit drugs after intercepting a vehicle during a random checking.
The checking was conducted in an village outskirt, Mulakawi village located in Champhai district. The heroin was seized from an individual of Khamrang village in Kolasib district, Vanlalchama. Assam police busted another smuggling racket on 1st February, Wednesday.
Serchhip Battallion of 23 Assam Rifles seized as many as 77 cases of foreign cigarettes at Zokhawthar. The seized contrabands were approximately worth Rs 1.155 crore. A joint operation team was formed based on prior information regarding movement of the illicit items in the region, by Assam Rifles, Customs Unit and LCS Zokhawthar.
The team was headed by the Inspector General of Assam Rifles. Furthermore, the contrabands were presented before the Custom Department, on the same day for legal investigation process. Mizoram is in the limelight for all the smuggling activities that are being carried out by smugglers, across the state.
